About the Library

The Library of Women’s College, Calcutta pays homage to the rich heritage of its locality, that is, the well-known Baghbazar. It acts as the knowledge hub of the entire institute and has a comprehensive high-quality list of information resources in the field of Humanities along with Arts, Social Sciences and Science. It was founded in 1937 at 204, Cornwallis Street, Kolkata-6. The library shifted with the shift of the campus to the present address of P-29, Kshirode Vidyavinode Avenue, Kolkata-3.

The library is located on the first floor of the main building of the college and the carpet area of the Central library is around 138 sq. metres. Additionally, each department has a departmental seminar library maintained by their respective faculties. The college also has a separate PG wing library housed at the top floor of the new building of the college which caters to the specific need of the post-graduate students maintaining collection of post-graduate dissertations.
